We spent the afternoon taking one last look at some of our favorite places. Even at the end of our trip, it was still fascinating to see ancient buildings sandwiched in between modern ones.
Rome is a city that is layered with history. If you dig deep enough, you just might find something good.
Going on a Rick Steves tour was one of the best decisions we ever made. This was, by far, one of the most stress-free and relaxing vacations we have ever been on. Our tour guide was fearless and top-notch. The accommodations were nice and centrally located. This is the ONLY way we want to travel from now on.
We were not allowed to take photos at the Borghese Gallery, so here's a picture of the outside. I loved that this museum had a big collection of sculptures by Bernini, and what made it great was having a guide to explain everything to us with such passion and fervor. On this day, I learned not only to like, but to LOVE sculptures!
Our last lunch in Rome was at Ristorante Pizzeria Sacro e Profano.
The Pizza Rustica Calabrese was one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten.
This charming restaurant used to be a church!
We took one last peek at the Pantheon. This one was my FAVORITE.
We took one last dip photo of the Trevi Fountain.
We took one last swim stroll through Piazza Navona.
We took one last visit to Castel Sant'Angelo.
We took one last picture of a mysterious door located on the outside wall of the Vatican City.
On our last day, we had to stop by Ristorante Tre Scalini and taste their world-famous Tartufo. It was delicious!
We had one last terrace cocktail hour with the group before dinner.
At our last supper, Sarah gave us each a parting gift - a Popener! Mine broke in half the first time I used it, but I ingeniously re-purposed it into a Poperweight.
Cheers to our fabulous time in Rome!
After dinner, we held a midnight communion at St. Peter's Square.
